6 Days Mt Kilimanjaro Climb Marangu
Basic Info: Arrival day in Tanzania: - Kilimanjaro to Moshi 45Km (27 miles) 50 Min drive. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to Moshi where you will be taken directly to your accommodation. There you will meet the mountain crew for a pre-departure brief prior to the climb. You will then have the opportunity to go over any last minute questions and have the crew check over your gear. You will also have the opportunity to store excess gear.
Day 1: - MARANGU GATE to MANDARA HUTS
Base elevation 1800M (5,905 Ft) to Mandara hut 2750M (9,021 ft)
At 8:30 am our representative will pick you from your hotel and transfered to Marangu Gate where your permit will be issued. Gate formalities take about 01:15 hrs.
Day 2: - MANDARA HUTS to HOROMBO HUTS
Mandara hut 2750M (9,021 ft) to Horombo 3780 (12,400 ft) Km/miles of walking 7km ( 4.43 Miles) Time taken 5 to 6 hrs After breakfast we ascend through rolling alpine meadows enjoying the unique flora and unfettered views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. A packed lunch is served on the way to Horombo Hut (3780m ASL).
Day 3: - Acclimatization Day - HOROMBO to MAWENZI HUT via Zebra Rocks
A walk to higher altitude via Mawenzi Peak and Zebra rocks will offer the opportunity to gain a little high altitude and to test your initial reaction. Return late afternoon to lower altitude altitude. This is the recommended Climb High Sleep Low principal.
Day 4: - HOROMBO HUT to KIBO HUT
Horombo 3780M (12,285 ft) to Kibo 4,700M (15,420 ft) | Km/Miles of walking 6 Km (miles) | Time taken 5 to 6 Hrs
After a good night’s rest we continue on and enter the lunar landscape on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi. Kibo Hut at 4700m.
Day 5: - KIBO HUT to the SUMMIT returning to HOROMBO HUT.
Kibo 4,700M (15,420 ft) to Summit 5,895M (19,340 ft) back to Horombo 3780 (12,285 ft) Km/miles of walking 10 km (6 miles)
Time taken 14-16hrs
The summit push is made in the early hours of the morning in order to reach Gillman Point - (5680m) before dawn. At Gillman Point expect a most spectacular and unforgettable sunrise. A further hour will bring you to the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak at 5895m. The descent is less strenuous.
Day 6: - HOROMBO HUT to MARANGU GATE
Horombo hut 3780M (12,285 ft) to Marangu gate 1800M (5,850 ft), Km/miles of walking 4 km (2.5 miles) Ascend and 14 Km descend (8.75 miles) Time taken 5 to 7 Hrs
A half day’s leisurely walk will bring us back to Marangu Gate. After bidding farewell to the supporting clue, drive to your Moshi hotel on bed and breakfast basis.
Naro Moru is the most popular and fastest route to point Lenana although not the most scenic. Traverse though the notoriously treacherous vertical bog and into the wide Teleki Valley beneath the Tryndall, The Lewis Glacier.
