Basic Info: Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. A little rock climbing is required for someone to get to the highest peaks (Batian 5,199m and Nelion 5,099m). The trekker’s peak is Pt. Lenana (4,985m).

Getting to Mount Kenya
Mt. Kenya is easily accessible by road using most means of transportation. These will get you close to the mountain's nearest town, Naromoru town for Naro Moru route, Nanyuki town for Sirimon route and Chogoria town for Chogoria route.

Climbing Routes
Sirimon Route: This is on the Northern side of the mountain and has become the most popular route to many a trekker due to its gentle ascent to the main peaks.. Accommodation is either in the bulk houses or the basics campsites. One requires 3-4 days up and down.

Chogoria Route: This is on the South Eastern side of the mountain and is the longest but most scenic route in this mountain. Wild life is in plenty in rain and inside the bamboo forest. Accommodation is only available at Meru Mt. Kenya lodge (2,950m). Camping equipment is required for the rest of the trek. One requires a minimum of 6 days 5 nights.

Naromoru Route: This is on the Western side of the mountain and used to be the most popular route in the 80’s but due to degradation & the heavy rains, most of the trekkers shifted to other routes. Wild life is common & bird life is in plenty. Accommodation is in the bulk houses or basics camp sites. One requires 3-4 days to use this route.

Burguret Route: Sandwiched between Sirimon and Naromoru route is this rarely used but scenic route. The trek is in the thickest of the bamboo forest and the tussock grass, which makes it harder for the trekkers.Wild life is in plenty and bird lovers have something to smile about. Accommodation is basic camping and water is not easily available. One requires a minimum of 6 days 5 nights.
